Ablative Case - Çıkma, Uzaklaşma durumu "den hali" (-dan, –den, –an, –ten)

The ablative case expresses:

a) departure, seperation, b)cause, c) comparison, d) the material from which something is made, e) part or member, f) place from which

The suffix –den, -dan becomes –ten,-tan if the word ends with one of the following consonants:

p, ç, t, k, s, ş, f, h.

Okul-dan geldim.

I came from school. Otobüs İzmir'den geldi.

The bus came from Smyrna. Uçaktan indik, trene bindik.

We got off the plane and we got on the train. Kapıdan girdi

He entered by the door. Haber televizyondan yayıldı.

The news was spread through the television. Açlıktan öldü.

He died from hunger. Mehmet Kerem'den daha kibar.

Mehmet is more polite than Kerem. Çikolatalı pastadan hiç yemedi.

He did not eat from the chocolate cake at all. George yakın arkadaşlarımdan biri.

George is one of my close friends.

İnterrogatives take also –dan, -den

Mektup kimden geldi?

From whom did the letter come? Uçak nereden geldi?

Where did the plane come from? Neden gittiler?

Why did they leave? Bu eteği nereden aldınız?

Where did you buy this skirt?

Pronouns take suffix –den quite regularly.

Paraları bizden aldı onlara verdi.
He took the money from us and he gave ıt to them. Benden borç istedi.
He wanted a loan from me. Yine yalan söylüyorsun senden biktim.
You are telling lies to me agaın, I am bored of you.

Postpositions with ablative case

dan/den başka: besides, except from

Partiye senden başka herkes geldi.

Everybody except from you came to the party. O paradan başka hiç bir şey düşünmüyor.

He doesn't think anything else except from money.

dan/den dışında: except from

ekmekten dışında hiç bir şey yemeyi istemiyorum.

I don't want to eat anything except from bread.

dan/den beri: since

Sabahtan beri hiç bir şey yemedim.

I haven't eaten anything since morning. Sabahtan beri seni bekliyorum! Neredeydin?

I have been waiting for you since morning. Where had you been?

dan/den dolayı: because of

Kusura bakmayın trafik yüzünden geciktim!

I am sorry, i was late because of traffic!

Sonra: after

Yemekten sonra ne yapmak istiyorsun?

Kaçmak (hapisten, dersten)	to escape (from).
Geçmek (yoldan okuldan)	to pass by, go by.
Hareket etmek (kalkmak) (otogardan iskeleden)	to move start; to depart.
İstemek (tatlıdan  yemekten)	to want, desire, wish.
Yemek (yemekten)	eat.
Almak (manavdan, bakkaldan)	buy.
Sıkılmak (dersten, okumaktan)	to get bored.
Nefret etmek (dedikodudan)	hate.
Hoşlanmak (senden, müzikten)	to like, be pleased with; to enjoy.
Korkmak (yılandan, farelerden)	to fear, be afraid (of).
